This article talks about the projected increased job market for civil engineers over the next few years. It states that between the years of 2011 and 2013, the amount of civil work done will rise by about 20 percent. These projects are mostly going to be mining and flood reconstruction.
This is so important, not only to engineers in Australia, but to engineers all around the globe. A lot of these jobs may be taken by students who just graduated. Since this would be an international job, it would be nice to have previous experience working in other countries with people of different backgrounds. That is why I think it is so important to have a study abroad experience while in school. Study abroad is something I have really been considering because I want to have that edge over other engineers. Being able to say you already have experience with others globally will definitely be a benefit.
I definitely agree with your opinion that studying abroad is very important and maybe even necessary in this world. Our world is a very competitive place and having experience around the globe is an advantage. I found it interesting, though not surprising, that it’s the civil engineering discipline that is going up in numbers for jobs available. Even here in America, jobs for sewage are definitely needed. I am from the Midwest and even just this summer, with the rain conditions, water is not flowing out fast enough. Even worse is the situation out in the west and how their land is becoming more dry and air more arid. Civil engineers could design a pipe system that brings water from the Midwest to the west. ReplyDeleteYeah study abroad may one day become a requirement for degrees...who knows. But as you said it was kind of interesting to see how the growth for engineers is so great specifically for civil engineers. I also like that idea of the pipe system to bring in water. That alone could bring so many jobs to many dicsiplines of engineering! ENGR 103
