So I'm currently working at the Earhart Dining Court and as a matter of fact, I have just returned back to my dorm from there. Yeah, sounds crazy, but it's not all that bad I guess.. Since this is my first job, I was pretty excited in the beginning. On the first day, which was a wednesday as far as I remember, I came back from classes, took a shower again and got ready at 5.50 pm. I was asked to have a free meal first, which was better than the usual ones because it was 'free' :P
Then came the time when I had to start my work. I never knew what I was really going to feel after that. I had to fill the salad bar every single minute since one or the other things got empty. This was the first time I wondered how much the students here eat! It was tiring, and if it wasn't enough, I had to throw garbage then. Well, that was a part of my job that I was unaware of. That shift was of 4 hours, and I came back and slept straightaway. My back hurt and my hands, even more. In the next Sunday shift, I had to wash the piece-wares'. Well, that was pretty okay.
I'm not working for money.. (well, a bit.) but I'm basically working for an experience. And I get to meet new people who are as tired as me at the end of our shifts. And like I said, it's not all that bad. Atleast my mom will be happy when I'll help her out with the kitchen work in summers :)

That really sounds like an exhausting job, but is probably a great way to meet people. I never really thought about all the food all of the students are eating that must be a long process doing that, especially having to do it after having classes all day long. I don't know if I could do it. Thank you for doing that! I feel that Purdue provides so many things that we take for granted and some schools do not have, like great dining courts. I have friends who have said from the first day the food has been absolutely horrible! I cannot imagine there not being one thing that you could not enjoy. The great thing about Purdue is that there are so many choices! (Jayne)
ReplyDeleteIts a really good idea to have a job while in school! Like you said, you get valuable experience from working. Also, it puts a little extra green in your pockets to spend :) I really need to get a job solely for that reason; I enjoy spending money on pointless things. I was considering getting a job in my residence hall, bu right now i am so overwhelmed with homework, that i dont know how i would fit in the time for a job. Maybe next semester it will work out. Anyways, hopefully as you get settled in, it wont be so exhausting. And have fun meeting new people!(Jayne)
ReplyDelete@margotk : I so agree. There are just too many choices, and that is the part I truly love. I could fill three plates and never get tired of eating, but eventually end up wasting :)
ReplyDelete@Nick : I know right! I love spending on useless things too! And it suddenly gives me freedom to spent, without thinking of my dad's pocket.. Maybe you could try doing that next semester, it ain't so bad after all :)
