Culture vs. Culture

This time we were able to appreciate not only how culture interactions can lead to many results, but we were also capable of vaguely picturing how culture tells us how to behave and what is wrong or right for us.
First of all the example of Mark and Max doing their business. It was evident that not only their business culture but also their general culture is based in different principles:
Germany: Effectiveness
England: Reliability
It is very important to remark the context and meaning of the words in different cultures. Because in the case of the american and german engineers that worked together, their definition of 'quality' was pretty different, and led them to a misunderstanding.
Now, it's time to talk about the possible solutions for this concern. According to my point of view the only possible way to solve this problem is to fire a translator, and to get to know a little bit more about the people you are dealing with, because we could appreciate how places that are very close an that have some commonalities in their historical backgrounds also have different cultures and conceptions of their surroundings. This way we will be able to understand the others and their cultures, in order to manage good relationships between each other based on different understandings of values such as respect.

  1. First, of all I really like the title. It is hard to think of unique from the week before. This is a simple title, but also means a lot. Culture does go against culture and you cannot hold one to a higher order than the other, which is one of the points that someone must learn how to deal with. Culture is so interesting. Yesterday, when the lecturer was discussing how the snapping thing (not sure exactly what to call it), it was so interested. I did not know that was an offensive symbol. If I had know it was I would not do, especially on this campus being around so many other cultures. I am going to watch that from know on. The sound makes a loud and I turned around at there someone was doing the snapping motion. I just laughed to myself, because know it I know there is more meaning to it than just being bored. This is why culture is so interesting, because there is a meaning in everything and for some reason I find this so interesting, especially when visiting other countries it is almost like a challenge for me to see if I can fit into the culture to the best of my ability. Your blog was funny, but so true. The best way to learn a culture is to fully immerse yourself in it. When I went to France, I was the person who spoke the most French so everyone forced we to translate everything, but I learned so much and loved the experience. It pushed my knowledge and everything meant so much more, because I knew so much. SO true , Great BLOG! (Engr 103)
